avadeaux Since visiting New Orleans in March 2005, I'm constantly on the lookout for recordings to bring back the sound of jazz, traditional in style but contemporary in performance. Most recordings, new and old, are somehow over-polished and lack the nerve and heat of a tight band of super-skilled musicians hitting it off together in their love of the original cross-cultural musical bullseye that is New Orleans jazz. This is the best recording I've found so far that really brings that feeling across. Favorite track: White Ghost Shivers.

David Menashe Yet another superb album from Shotgun Jazz Band. Yearning was always going to be a hard act to follow but Stepping On The Gas may be even better!

My only gripe is that we had to wait well over 2 years for it ;-) Please Marla, send us more... Favorite track: Breeze.

Ricky Riccardi Another indispensable album by my favorite New Orleans traditional jazz band. Everyone is in spectacular form but the tracks with the addition of Ben Polcer on trumpet and Tom Fischer on reeds are especially worth savoring as they capture the spirit of the legendary Sam Morgan recordings. And no one in the world can sing like Marla! What a band! Favorite track: White Ghost Shivers.
